Swap and Donate Day Saturday, May 20th, 11-2, 110 Great Road, Bedford

This event focuses on re-using five item categories :  bikes (including parts and accessories); toys;  kitchen an bath items;  working laptops with power cords; and holiday decorations .  Items can be dropped off at 10:30 at the Brown & Brown parking lot on the Great Road.

Boston-based, Bikes Not Bombs will collect donated bicycles.   The organization reclaims thousand of bikes each year. They have created local and global programs that provide leadership training, skill development, jobs, and sustainable transportation.   They are requesting a $10 donation, for those who can afford making one, to cover the costs of their programs. Tax receipts for donations will be offered.

The toy area will be managed by Bedford’s own parent organization, BEST.  Please do not bring stuffed animals since we do not have the capacity to clean and sanitize these items.

Transition Town Bedford will collect working laptops with power cords.  This is part of their on-going efforts to  distribute laptops to formerly homeless veterans currently living in local half-way houses.  Veterans have been using over 40 computers collected thus far, employing them to gain computer skills and engage in job hunting.  Computers will be cleared by a Transition Town volunteer.  We accept laptops that boot from a USB-port or a DVD- drive.

Additionally,  kitchen and bath items and holidays decorations will be collected.  These are available for swapping with extra items going to two local organizations addressing the needs of Boston-area kids and their families who have been experiencing the uncertainties associated with homelessness and poverty:  Christmas in the City and Mission of Deeds.

If you are tired of all the stuff being thrown away, we hope you will  come to this event with your re-usable items.   Responsible resource management will make our community stronger, save money, and help others and the environment.  The event promises to be fun!
